Easy Homemade Applesauce with Pressure Cooker

I went apple picking about 3 weeks ago and made an apple cake (post coming soon) that was amazing but then I just let the apples sit in the refrigerator and did nothing with this.  The lady at the farm we went to said that apples will stay at their best when refrigerated and up to 6 months at that.  I actually didn’t let them go to waste. Go me!

My little one LOVES applesauce so it was the perfect time to get to the kitchen and make some homemade applesauce for our whole family. I know you can do this right on the stove but I love using my Instant Pot so I did it right in there.  So simple that I could add in and walk away.

Here’s what I did:  Peeled about 15 apples, cut and cored, placed in Instant Pot with 1/4 cup of water and put on manual pressure for 2 minutes. YES 2!  It does take some time for the pot to come to pressure but that’s your time to walk away and do something else…like laundry.

When the 2 minutes is over, I recommend that you do a natural release.  That means you let the valve stay closed and you allow the pressure in the pot to release naturally.  The pin right beside the valve will drop and then open it.  I did a quick release on my first batch of apples and the only thing that quickly released was words that I can’t use here.  I had apple sauce/juice EVERYWHERE and had to clean up a mess.  So not my thing.

I prefer my applesauce to be very smooth so I used my Ninja to puree it until smooth. This was the perfect job for my little one year old.  When she was younger we had to take her to the other side of the house for the noise, now she prefers being the user of this and really, the more help I get from her, the happier I am. If you don’t like it as smooth as me I am sure an immersion blender would work great..actually I am confident it would.
