EASY Apple “Turkey” Snack with Pressure Cooker Dulce de Leche

1

How cute is this apple snack that looks like a turkey?  With the help of my daughter and nephew, we threw together this little snack after school today. We had so much fun and had even more fun gobbling up this little treat.  We usually a no double dipping rule because you just don’t.  BUT..we sort of triple or even quadruple dipped on this one and I’m ok with being judged.

This did take two days do make because of the dulce de leche.  I used my awesome Instant Pot to make the dulce de leche and boy was it easy and all I needed was a can of sweetened condensed milk.  While I was getting the Instant Pot ready, my daughter helped to take the wrapper off of the can of sweetened condensed milk.  You MUST do this before putting the unopened can in your Instant Pot. You also want to make sure you have a can that is not dented.  This was when I didn’t allow my kid to throw the can in the grocery cart like I usually allow her to.

I was preparing the Instant Pot for the can of sweetened condensed milk. Here’s what you need to do:

  • Add your trivet (that came with the pot) to the bottom of the stainless steel liner.
  • Place your steamer basket on top of trivet.
  • Place the can of sweetened condensed milk in steamer basket.
  • Add water to completely cover the can but make sure you don’t go above the fill line.

Put the lid on the instant pot and seal.  Press manual high pressure. Adjust the time to 30 minutes and walk away.  When the 30 minutes are up, turn the Instant Pot off and allow for the pressure to release naturally.  Once the pin has dropped, open the pot and with a pair of tongs, remove the can and sit upright on the counter.  Allow the can to cool overnight on the counter or the refrigerator.

Once the can and the contents have cooled, proudly open the can and see this…

Dare ya not to stick a spoon in there for a bite!

As for the turkey, I used my apple slicer and then arranged on a platter to resemble the feathers of a turkey.   This is going to look adorable on our table for Thanksgiving.  Inside the dish with the dulce de leche we decorated with 2 milk chocolate candies and a piece of candy corn. Cute!!
