Cast Iron Deep-ish Dish Pizza {husband calls it one of the top 3 favorite pizzas I make}

If you’re in need of a FAST dinner then make sure to give this Cast Iron Deep-ish Dish Pizza a try.  I call it deep-ish dish because I didn’t want the crust as deep as a traditional deep dish. My husband was busy hanging a TV today and I needed food before he became hangry. Yeah, you know that type of person. They get moody until they have food. This didn’t happen because this pizza was served in just under 30 minutes.

Begin by making your pizza dough. This time around it’s ok for the dough to be a bit sticky.  Oil the cast iron skillet and then oil your hands and place the dough in the skillet to the edges.

Place your favorite sauce on your dough.

Add cheese. I like to use Parmesan cheese on top of the sauce and then top with mozzarella cheese.

Finally add any additional toppings such as onions, pepperoni and oregano.

This is where preference comes in.  Cook your pizza at 550°F for anywhere from 12-15 minutes.  I made this a few times to test and each time I really liked the crust at 12 minutes.  So I’d start at 12 and then work your way up.  The bottom of the crust was NOT burnt at all. The pizza was PERFECTION!

Instructions
Pizza Dough
  1. Preheat oven to 550°F.
  2. In a stand mixer add in 1 cup of warm water that is about 100°F. Add 1 packet of quick rise yeast and sugar and stir and allow to bloom for about 5 minutes.
  3. Once it has started to bloom add in 2 cups of flour and salt and with dough hook allow to combine. Once combined, let it knead for about 5 minutes. You'll want the dough to be a bit sticky. If it's too sticky, add more flour, If it's too dry, add more water.
  4. Turn off mixer and allow to sit for about 5 minutes. While it's doing that oil your cast iron skillet. I add EVOO and use a brush and wipe it around all sides.
Topping Pizza
  1. Place dough on oiled cast iron skillet and push to all meet ends of skillet.
  2. Top with sauce, Parmesan cheese, mozzarella cheese, onions and pepperoni.
  3. Sprinkle with Italian seasoning or oregano.
  4. Once oven is heated to 550°F, place in oven and set timer for 10 minutes. At 10 minutes, check the pizza. If it needs more time, increase time by 2 minute increments. I found that the perfect time for my oven is 12 minutes.
